About this tool

What is zakat?

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. A Muslim who owns wealth above the nisab for a full Islamic year gives 2.5% of it to those in need.

What can this calculator do?

It works out zakat on cash, gold, silver, business goods, loans you will get back, savings and shares. It also covers animals, crops (ushr) and fitrana, and includes a short guide on who must pay and who can receive.

Hanafi by default, other schools available

The tool follows Hanafi fiqh by default. You can switch to Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali rules at the top. Nisab, jewellery, crops and fitrana change with the school. Your amounts are never saved, only prices and settings stay in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Which gold and silver price should I use?

Use today's price from your jeweller or an online rate list. Type the price of 24 carat gold. The tool adjusts for your carat.

Is zakat due on jewellery I wear?

In Hanafi fiqh, yes. In Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali fiqh, jewellery worn regularly for permissible use is not counted.

Should I choose the silver or gold nisab?

Many Hanafi scholars recommend the silver nisab, because more people reach it and more poor people benefit. Choose the gold nisab only if your scholar advises it.

Are my amounts saved anywhere?

No. Your amounts stay on the screen only. Only prices, currency and fiqh choice are saved in your own browser.

Is this a fatwa?

No. It gives general guidance. For special cases, please ask a trusted scholar.
